We actively recruit and screen healthy women for participation in our egg donation program. At our Manhattan fertility center, we welcome potential donors between the ages of 21-32. New York Egg Donation Screening

During the pre-screening process, each egg donation candidate will be asked to fill out a medical form that contains detailed questions about their general and reproductive health, as well as their family history. The next step involves one or more visits to our office, where candidates will be interviewed by one of our fertility specialists and undergo a comprehensive gynecological examination and screening for genetic disorders (New York PGD). As part of the pre-screening process, egg donation candidates will also undergo a routine psychological examination.

The Oocyte (Egg) Donation Process

The first step in the egg donation process involves matching recipients with an egg donor. These matches are based on the preferences of the egg recipient. Our specialists will work hand-in-hand with infertile couples to help them find a donor that will suit their needs. For those who already have a suitable donor, i.e., a relative, family friend, or a donor chosen from an outside agency, we can coordinate and manage the egg donation process at our Manhattan, New York practice.

Egg donation involves many of the same techniques used during traditional New York IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatments. Prior to harvesting, the egg donor receives injections of fertility drugs that are designed to help her produce multiple eggs. These eggs are then retrieved while the donor is under sedation controlled by a board-certified anesthesiologist. Finally, the eggs are combined with sperm from the recipient’s partner and the viable embryos are transferred to the recipient’s uterus, with excess viable embryos cryopreserved (frozen) for use in the future.

A successful embryo transfer hinges on synchronization between the cycles of the donor and recipient; when the donor is producing eggs that are ready for retrieval the recipient must be at the stage of their cycle where the uterus is receptive to embryo implantation. If synchronization is not achieved, the embryos can go through egg freezing for use at a later date.

Because some of the donated eggs should be healthy since they have been retrieved from young, healthy women, the likelihood of conception is greater with egg donation than with IVF using non-donated eggs. If you are interested in learning more about the egg donation process, contact our Manhattan fertility center. Patients across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and beyond are welcome to visit our offices in Midtown Manhattan or Greenwich Village to speak with our staff about our egg donation program.
