Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine insemination, or IUI, is another infertility treatment offered at our Manhattan center. During an IUI procedure, sperm is placed directly into the uterus, bypassing the cervix, to increase the likelihood of the sperm reaching and fertilizing the egg.

Depending on the patient, IUI can be accomplished with or without ovulation induction. Many women with regular cycles can conceive naturally with just the help of intrauterine insemination; however, some women may need additional help from ovulation inducing fertility drugs. Contact OFRM in Manhattan to find out if intrauterine insemination is right for you.

Who is a candidate for intrauterine insemination (IUI)?

Intrauterine insemination can be an effective infertility treatment for women facing a variety of known fertility problems. Intrauterine insemination may also be an excellent place to start in the treatment of women who suffer from infertility of unknown causes. To find out if you are a candidate for IUI infertility treatment, please contact our Manhattan fertility center today.

How is intrauterine insemination (IUI) performed?

Intrauterine insemination is a relatively simple process. IUI procedures at our Manhattan fertility center require only a few minutes. A small catheter containing the processed sperm (obtained from a male partner or from a sperm bank) is inserted high inside the uterine cavity. Because the catheter is thin and pliable, this part of the process is virtually painless. No anesthesia is required and there is minimal discomfort (the process is similar to a pap smear).
